Who the f*$% still plays conkers?

You’re probably thinking that conkers was a game for 8 year-old school kids. Well - why should 8 year-olds have all the fun?

Conkers is the perfect game to play over a pint outside the pub, or the perfect way to let off some steam at work. Forget vaping - get conker-ing.

There’s a certain serenity and pensiveness to conkers. There’s a lot of release in conkers. There’s also a lot of skill and finesse - if you can be bothered.

Of course alternatively you can just smash sh*t up and have some good old-fashioned fun.

You choose how you want to play.

Battles

In New York parks, the old & intellectuals, drunks & homeless, young & interested gather to play chess with strangers. In Paris the same eclectic bunch gather to play boules.

In London we gather to drink. With conker battles, Londoners can expend pent-up competitiveness & frustration with conker in-hand. The intellectual and physical equivalent of chess & boules combined.

Battle Royale rules only (read more here >).

Collecting & ageing

There’s a real beauty to a conker - both fresh off the tree and aged. There’s also a world of difference physically and aesthetically between a yearling (fresh off the tree) and an aged conker (12+ months old).

As conkers age two things happen - they lose their moisture as they dry out, but retain their natural oils. The balance between the loss of water and the retention of oils mean that the nut shrivels and gets smaller. As the nut gets smaller with the loss of water it changes shape; like a grape turning into a raison the texture of the nut becomes pitted and craggy.

This is where the beauty begins.

Videos + re-mixing

We’re a creative bunch + like making videos as much as we like playing conkers. We’ve created a repository for all the raw footage we shoot, so others can mix it up too.

IRL & Events

Getting people together / IRL interaction is at the heart of what Peckham Conker Club’s about. Conkers - in a weird way - can act as a wonderful ice-breaker / glue - bringing together an eclectic bunch.

We’re also up for for organising Battles with other people / orgs / companies. Learn more here / get in touch if you have an event you want us to get involved with ;-)

Who’s behind the Club

Peckham Conker Club’s a collaboration of South London’s finest. People involved in various ways include Chris Q (conker collector), Cody (films), Sam (s*ck moves), Simon (colour), Elena (gold).
